Susan R. Bauer, Inc. was awarded the contract to rehabilitate one of the oldest Phoenix Column working truss bridges in the United States. Built in 1878, the bridge had finally past its working capacity and needed to be dismantled and rehabilitated. The bridge was dismantled and sent to our shop where it would be sand blasted, inspected, rehabilitated, re-riveted, sand blasted again and painted.

   Some of the highlights of the project include:  

• The entire floor beam structure was removed and replaced with a much stronger system of floor beams, stringers and tie rods.  
• Rehabilitation of the entire Phoenix Truss members. This included on some members removing the rivets on one section of the truss tube, re-fabricating, and re-riveting.
• Total bearing replacement.
• Finial rehabilitation.
• Rivet removal and installation.
• Rehabilitation of existing castings.
• Replacement of stainless steel pins and nuts
• Plaque and Portal rehabilitation.
• Rehabilitation of existing lattice railing
• Fabrication of new 2 line guide rail system.
• Sand blasting inside of Phoenix Truss members.
• All new members were hot dipped galvanized and 2 coat paint system
• All existing members were sand blasted and 3 coat paint system.
• Transportation to and from project site.
